Description of Jiu Jitsu

Gracie Jiu Jitsu - Team Pedro SauerEverything we do at Ethos is geared towards surviving a real world confrontation.  We focus our attention on the applications and strategies that are grounded in solid self defense principles. Against a single, unarmed attacker, Gracie Jiu Jitsu fundamentals provide unrivaled solutions.

Jiu Jitsu also offers a lot control options that other arts don’t. Many of the chokes and joint locks are what we call bargaining positions. They give you opportunities to end confrontations without significantly injuring your opponent.  That makes it an ideal art for contending with bullies or quickly resolving heated conflicts at rowdy family reunions.

We also believe very strongly in sustainable training. We take the Gracie motto, “keep it playful”, to heart. In Jiu Jitsu, if you need to use muscle or weight to make a move work, you don’t understand the move. Every student has a responsibility and an expectation to train safely. We teach all of our students that the most important person in the Academy is the person you’re training with. Your partner is sacrificing their time and their body so that you can train, your first responsibility is to honor them by protecting them. Keep your training partners healthy and you’ll always have plenty of people to train with.

Ethos is a member of the Pedro Sauer Association, and our Lead Coach, Mark Cukro of Integrated Martial Arts Academy, is a black belt under Master Pedro Sauer.
